ABOUT M9
Mighty 9 Records, named after the 9th ward of New Orleans, Louisiana where co-founder and CEO Willie “Topdawg” Griffin grew up before joining the USAF in January of 2003. The idea for the name of the label came from a phrase known all too well by people living in the 9th ward “I’m out that MIGHTY 9 and I don’t mind dying”.  The name is also meant to be a tribute to the 9th ward of New Orleans, which took a terrible beating and never quite bounced back the same after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Katrina happened as Topdawg was preparing for a deployment to Southwest Asia, from the UK where he and his wife Raina were stationed. Trying to contact his family and friends in New Orleans, while preparing for a deployment made August and September of 2005 very busy and hectic at times. When Topdawg returned to the UK from his deployment him, Truant and G-stylez, who all met during their three year tours in the UK, begin casually recording Truant and G-stylez freestyles as they always did. Topdawg being the businessman he has been since grade school saw an opportunity to take what they were doing to the next level. He soon enlisted 3 more artists and began school with Berklee College of Music to learn as much as possible about the music industry.
